TEEN 1 DISCIPLESHIP MOVEMENT
LUKE 1:16-17
16 He will turn many of the sons of Israel back [from sin] to [love and serve] the Lord their God.
17 It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous [which is to seek and submit to the will of God]—in order to make ready a people [perfectly] prepared [spiritually and morally] for the Lord.”
AIM
To disciple teenagers, one at a time.
VALUE
Imbibing and Modelling Christlike Character.
Our Vision
In the power of the Holy Spirit, building up the younger generation (particularly teenagers) across the globe through intentional discipleship to model Christlike character in their circle of influence and also make ready a people for the coming.
Our Mission
Our Mission
TEEN 1 DISCIPLESHIP MOVEMENT exists to: To disciple teenagers across the globe for CHRIST in partnership with matured believers, local churches, para-church organizations and schools, using well-researched biblical literature.
Statement
Malachi 4:5-6, AMP “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers [a reconciliation produced by repentance], so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse [of complete destruction].”
Our Goals
- Empowering young people to live responsible lives.
- Teaching disciples to observe all that Christ has taught us.
- Mentoring young people to be ready for the coming of the Lord.
- Training them to become responsible leaders in their circles of influence.
- Encouraging teenagers to study the Bible and biblical materials (2 Timothy 2:15).
What it takes to be part of the movement
Teen 1 discipleship is a quiet, but significant venture. You do not need adverts and much logistics. You can do it anywhere and at anytime. Any serious discipler can reach, at least, three teenagers a year who will be discipled to reach others too.
Expenses involved could be cost of purchasing the discipleship materials which are really
subsidized. The discipler, usually a matured believer, may also provide snacks for the disciples during the meetings.
You will need to make yourself accessible to your disciple to ask questions and also share experiences.
Finding the teenager is not difficult at all. Remember, you must begin from your Jerusalem – Your home, church, neighborhood, etc.
Let us trust the Lord to expand this movement until teenagers across the land are saved and discipled for Christ, to save them from the edicts of the Pharaohs of our generations to destroy our young ones.
PROCESS
This is a movement geared towards discipling teenagers, one at a time. The concept works as follows:
- A matured believer prays for God to help him or her identify a teenager.
- On identifying one, they discuss the possibility of going through the discipleship sessions.
- They fix a day in the week when they can meet for an hour.
- They go through the Teen 1 Discipleship materials which will first enable the teenager to identify whether he or she has sincerely given his or her life to Christ (that is, if teenager is a Christian already), and if not, to do so. Follow-up materials are all included to ensure that the teenager fully appreciates the place of sin, righteousness, Holy Spirit baptism, etc.
- The teenager will be taught how to have a daily personal quiet time and also write notes. A one-year devotional and quiet time journals are included in the discipleship materials.
- Next, the teenager should be encouraged to contact another teenager to also disciple, with the discipler giving them oversight.
- You can plan some of these activities with your teenager(s):
a. A retreat, at least, once in the three-month session.
b. Evangelism outreaches – tract distribution, hospital and house-to-house visitation, etc. - If you are not in the same church, visit his or church and see what help or counsel he or she might need to be more involved.
- Visit the school or home and give the necessary support.
- When your group expands, you could organize round-table conferences and invite other speakers to speak on teen-related matters, such as, relationships, career, etc.
Our Challenges
At the moment, churches are opting for their whole Teens’ group to go through the discipleship
programme. The difficulty has been the inability to monitor the progress of individuals,
especially, their daily engagement with Scriptures through the Quiet Time. However, the teens in
such groups have been exposed to what sin is; why Christ came and their need for salvation,
leading to a better understanding of who a Spirit-Filled Christian is.
